Oz Comic Con is a massive convention that focuses on all things geek! The event runs for 2 days and visits most capital cities (besides Darwin and Canberra – sorry!). During the 30th September & 1st October, Oz Comic Con will be happening at the International Convention Centre at Darling Harbour. Online tickets for the event are $37.50 / day or $57.50 for a weekend pass. The event is also very child-friendly with kid day passes at $20, or $30 for a weekend pass. Thanks to the super wonderful team at Oz Comic Con, I’ll be attending the two day convention with a media pass. Unfortunately I will only be able to attend one day (Saturday) but I thought I might write up this post on all the things I’m super pumped for! Also make sure to follow me on Twitter, as I will be sharing my experience throughout the day!
From my Supernova haul post last year and my most recent Japan haul post, we all know that I can’t resist emptying my wallet. So I can’t wait to get my grubby hands on all the incredible merchandise at Oz Comic Con. From their site I can already see over 40 stores/exhibitions that house anime goods from cosplay items to art utensils to the typical figurine stores. On top of this, like any great convention, Oz Comic Con has an Artist Alley. The Artist Alley will be my chance to pick up some incredible fan art, I really hope I can find some Fire Emblem inspired work, and maybe even ask for a commission. Last year my friend got a really cool Sailor Moon commission of herself for about $60.
Oz Comic Con has some super fun features lined up. There’s the anime station where anime fans can relax and watch back-to-back anime episodes + a manga library. There’s also a Gaming Zone where you can play the latest electronic games or go for something a bit more classical like a board game. But by far, the most exciting feature of Oz Comic Con is the Justice League themed Escape Room! I’ve become a recent Escape Room nut, and can’t wait to try out this special limited escape room only at Oz Comic Con!
The best part of attending any convention is the atmosphere. It’s not just the excitement of breathing the same air as big stars like Jason Mamoa, it’s seeing how big and welcoming the geek community is! I love seeing the smiles and excitement of all the other attendees and better yet the cosplays they come up with. As someone who just recently got into sewing, I know how much time and effort goes into every single aspect of an outfit. I can’t wait till I can be amongst that geeky high!
You can find out more details about Oz Comic Con over here. The Sydney event will be held this weekend from 9am to 6pm each day. You can also attend a number of ‘After Hours‘ events if you don’t want the fun to end so early~
