Fall 2017 Anime First Impressions ~ Part 1

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, but I’m back! This time with the newest Fall Seasonal anime. If this if your first time checking my first impressions out, I’ll be doing quick impressions of each of the first episodes.  At the end I’ll let you know which ones I’ll be keeping up with🙂 You can check out the full list of fall anime series at Anichart. Just a quick rundown of my voting scales:

0-2: Wow that’s part of my life I’ll never get back

2-3: Reasonable, would need to watch the next one or two episodes to see if it’s worth continuing

4-5: That was absolutely fantastic! Give me the next episode now!

Also remember to check out my Facebook giveaway, it ends in 9 days!

Juuni Taisen

Zodiac War follows the ’12th Twelve Tournament’ where participants represent one of the signs from the twelve zodiacs. They battle to the death, with the victor being granted a wish. So far it’s had an alright start – the fighting animation is pretty cool, characters seem unique and interesting enough, premise is odd but solid. Whether this series is good will depend on whether there is any character development or if it just depends into a ridiculous blood bath. 3.5/5

Ousama Game

I remember reading the Ousama Game manga sometime last year. I was intrigued by the concept, but unfortunately the execution fell flat. So when I heard that an anime was going to be released my expectations weren’t high. Ousama Game (King’s Game) follows the survivor of the manga (but you don’t need to have read it) as he tries to integrate at a new school. Unfortunately for him another game begins where classmates receive mysterious texts telling them what to do. Failure to complete the task within 24 hours results in death. Just like the manga, the concept is really interesting but the execution is meh. The dialogue is a tad cliche, the animation isn’t anything great, and there’s not much tension. Overall a pretty standard first episode 2.5/5

Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara

Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara.jpgOsake wa Fuufu ni natte kara (Love is like a cocktail) is a 3 minute short anime based on a comic of the same name. There wasn’t much of a plot set up in the first episode. It essentially follows a strict office-worker wife who turns into an adorable mess when she gets drunk. At the end of the episode a type of cocktail is showcased with a recipe. The episode was cute, and the animation was alright but it’s not something that really caught my attention. I guess this series would be fun if you’re into different types of alcohol, but other than that it doesn’t seem like a standout for this season. 2.5/5

Omiai Aite wa Oshiego, Tsuyoki na, Mondaiji

Another anime short for this season, ‘Omiai Aite’ is 5 minutes long and features a lot more…’plot’. This series follows Nana Saigawa a popular high school teacher who is trying to deal with problem child Shuji Kuga. Her parents suggest her to attend a marriage interview, and she quickly falls for the handsome and suave man before her. However she uncovers that the man before her is actually her student Kuga! I’d totally be on board with this series if it didn’t have the sexy scenes. I mean REAL sexy scenes, I was just watching it and suddenly BAM SEXY TIME. In the last few seasons of anime, there’s been a trend with short anime being mini-hentai episodes. It’s a bit odd, and I’d rather actually watch something for the plot. So another 2.5/5 (for the plot!)

Hope you guys enjoyed this post~ Remem

  1. The last one seemed like a cute little romance, and your post caught me just as off guard – BAM, it’s a mini hentai! xD I hope Juuni Taisen turns into something good. You got me pumped to get back into anime (my time’s been devoted to reading, k-drama, and DreamWork’s Voltron: Legendary Defender <3).

    1. Haha! I was so shocked when I was watching it, it was just sweet romance and then suddenly BOOBS. There’s like two versions online a censored and uncensored one, but even the uncensored one is a bit too sexy for me >_<! Hehe, yay!

  2. I have to agree. It’s been a while since I’ve actually watched an anime all the way through. I think the last was Yona? I watched all of the first eps of these so it was so fun to see what you thought! And I agree 100%. Juuni Taisen was the one I was most interested in but like you said, I’m worried the character development will be put aside for a bloodbath. I got some Death Parade vibes from it lol but I’m not sure it can come close to that.

    1. Ooh yes same! It was really interesting, and I can’t wait to learn more about the characters. Although, even if the series does get bad, I reckon I’ll keep watching for that bunny guy ~

  3. I am one of those viewers that prefer to binge watching than waiting a week to see each episode xD i was really into king’s game and thinking to watch it when fall season ended. After reading your review i’m not so hyper for it. I’ll give a try non the less, but i’ll be more prepared to it. So, what i am trying to say is thanks for the warning and saving me from a huge deception with king’s game xD

    1. Thank you! I reckon the show would be fun to binge-watch, but like you said keep expectations low. If you find the series to be a bit lacking you can also read the manga there’s a bit more detail and you can almost connect to some of the characters.
