Fall 2017 Anime First Impressions ~ Part 2

We’re in the second week of the new Fall anime season. In my last post I watched 2 series and 2 shorts, you can check out what I thought of those over here.  At the end of this post I’ll let you know which series I’ll be continuing and my post plans. You can check out the full list of fall anime series at Anichart. Just a quick rundown of my voting scales:

0-2: Wow that’s part of my life I’ll never get back

2-3: Reasonable, would need to watch the next one or two episodes to see if it’s worth continuing

4-5: That was absolutely fantastic! Give me the next episode now!

Also remember to check out my Facebook giveaway, it ends in 4 days!

The Ancient Magus’ Bride

Mahoutsukai no Yome the ancient Magus' bride.jpg

The Ancient Magus’ Bride is definitely the most hyped series for this season. The episode introduces us to Chise Hatori who in a moment of desperation has decided to sell herself. She has the ability to see magical creatures and has been shunned by friends and family all her life. As the bidding for her begins a strange man with the head of a beast buys her for a ridiculous sum, promising to make her into a great magician and his wife! The episode was really beautifully done, the animation was spot on, I already love the characters, and the premise is so interesting. But I found this episode to move really slow, everything that happened I felt could have happened in about 10 minutes rather than an extended 23 minute episode. 4/5

Code:Realize ~ Sousei no Himegimi

Code Realize anime episode 1 Lupin.jpg

Code:Realize is an anime based on the highly popular otome game of the same name. The series follows Cardia, a young girl with a poisonous touch. She’s rescued by a gentleman thief called Lupin, who wants to find her father. In the game there’s 5 guys you can romance, however the anime only focuses on the ‘true’ route – Lupin. Having played the game, I was really impressed by the way they encapsulated the romantic ‘feel’ of every scene. It seems to be a very true adaption. One thing I was VERY annoyed at is how they drew Cardia’s face – her nose is a small dot and her mouth is a pink asshole slightly bigger dot. It just makes her look so ridiculous, and trust me in the game she does have a mouth. I just can’t fathom why they would erase her entire mouth!? I’ll give this a 3.5/5

LOOK AT THAT MOUTH 😡

Net-Juu no Susume

Moriko Morioka is a ‘professional NEET’, she’s just quit her job and started to play a new MMORPG. She creates her characters as a male (Hayashi), and meets a female player called Lily. The two quickly become friends, and spend their days going around the fantasy online world. However a shocking real life meet up will change both their lives! I always have a soft spot for anime that depict geeks and otakus so I absolutely adored this episode. It was cute, funny and the animation was pretty nice. I’m really excited to see the next episodes and see how Hayashi and Lily’s relationship develops~ 5/5

EVIL OR LIVE

Evil or live.jpg

On the opposite spectrum to Net-juu no Susume is ‘EVIL OR LIVE’. The first episode introduces us to 17 year old Hibiki, who has been forcibly enrolled into an academy for people with internet addictions, this is actually a real thing happening in China.  He can’t stand the cruel treatment from the guards, and is about to kill himself when Shin offers him an alternative. All Hibiki has to do is be loyal to Shin and he can have any woman he wants. The animation is interspersed with random shots of ‘real’ images, lots of text and panning shots. I also found the concept to be a bit creepy – ooh follow me and you can have as many flowers as you want (yes Shin calls the women flowers). Hibiki is your typical pathetic protagonist and Shin screams cliche – the psychopath with a sweet tooth. Overall not impressed 1/5

Taishou Mebius Line: Chicchai-San

Taisho Mebius Line is a 5 minute anime short based on a Boys Love game of the same name. Kyouichirou Hiiragi is travelling to Tokyo to learn more about the world so he can later become a leader for his family. However, once he arrives in Tokyo he suddenly turns into a chibi!? This looks to be quite a cute and fun anime, and I’m always up for anything BL 3/5

Plans for the Season

Juuni Taisen – I’ll definitely be keeping up with this series. As usual I’ll be discussing episodes in 3 episode increments. So you won’t hear from me until episode 4 airs.

Ousama Game – I’ll also be keeping up with this series in 3 episode increments. However my hopes aren’t very high for it.

The Ancient Magus’ Bride – I may do a full series review once all the episodes are out. I know quite a lot of anibloggers will be reviewing it weekly so I don’t want to keep repeating stuff already said.

Code:Realize ~ Sousei no Himegimi – While the ass-mouth did frustrate me, that’s not the reason I won’t be continuing this series. I haven’t actually finished Lupin’s route on my Code Realize game, so don’t want any spoilers!

Net-Juu no Susume –  Definitely keeping up with this in 3 episode increments.

EVIL OR LIVE – Definitely won’t be watching anymore of it

Shorts

Taishou Mebius Line: Chicchai-San – Will be doing a full series review.

Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte kara – Will try a few more episodes, and if I like it will do a full series review.

Omiai Aite wa Oshiego, Tsuyoki na, Mondaiji – Will be dropping, even though I liked the story, and can watch the censored version, it still kinda irks me.

Hope you all enjoyed my review. Remember to hit the subscribe button to keep up to date with all my posts~

  1. I just watched the Ancient Magus Bride myself (including the OVA which I had not yet seen) and fell in love with it. I do agree though that the first episode was rather slow (I liked the OVA better), but still the entire atmosphere and setting for it is really amazing. Can’t wait to see how this continues 😊
