The Cold Case of Noella Bejerot ~ Demo Review

‘The Cold Case of Noella Bejerot’ is a dream project, 2 years in the making by indie developers ‘RockTheClockGaming’. On the 20th December, the developers will be releasing a free demo for their game which will have a commercial release in late April 2018. Thank you to RockTheClockGaming for giving me an early release view of this wonderful game! The game follows budding detective Grace Sinclair who has all the makings of the 21st Century Sherlock Helmes except, she faints at the sight of blood. Sure enough this makes detective work a tad difficult. You play as Grace, solving crimes as you race against Grace’s faint-o-metre.

As this game is a demo it’s actually quite short. It should only take you about 30 minutes to play through with two quick and reasonably easy cases. I’m sure in the full version the cases will be a lot more challenging – after all this is just a taster of what the full game will be like! The game mechanics can be picked up pretty quickly, especially since this is a visual novel. Solving cases involves two very important skills – investigation and deduction. You can click around a crime scene, interview witnesses/ suspects and inspect evidence. Once you’ve got all your info you answer some deductive reasoning questions which will ultimately bring you to the culprit.

As in all visual novels, the characters are one of the most important features. From the demo, I really found the characters quite loveable. We’ve got Grace who is so sweet but also just lost her way a bit, but is ultimately trying her best. Then there’s the eccentric Delilah who is full of laughs and the cool top detective Lem. Overall this looks like quite an exciting and fun visual novel. I do hope/expect that the full version will be a bit more challenging (and longer). But with such a wonderful cast of characters & adorable sprites – I can’t wait to check out the full game!

You can check out more about the project over at RockTheClockGaming’s Blog, The demo will be available for both windows and mac on the 20th, after checking it out, make sure to head over to the Kickstarter page and support this great game!
