Celebrating Five Years of Blogging

On 31 August 2015 I published my first blog post. Back then the blog was called ‘Kuro Sama Reviews’, and I reviewed anything and everything – from anime to Tom Cruise films. Over the last five years a lot has changed in my blog, and as I’m writing this I wonder if I should really be celebrating five years of blogging. The amount of hiatuses I’ve taken, and the length of them, I’m sure I’ve only been blogging constantly for three to four years. I actually didn’t even write a post for my four years anniversary cause I was on a hiatus! But recently I’ve been feeling very happy I’ve kept coming back to this humble blog. Seeing some of the other blogs whose content I’ve enjoyed right from the beginning celebrating their own five years (such as Lita, Naja, Crow, Leaf) has made me feel quite blessed to be amongst anime bloggers.

I like to think that not only has my writing developed over the last five years, but I’ve grown a lot as a person. There’s been a lot of ups and downs in my personal life but it’s been nice to have a place I can come back to and share my thoughts and feelings. My blog has also allowed me to fulfil one of my lifetime goals writing professionally, first with MANGA.TOKYO and now (occasionally) on The List with Anime News Network.

With so much happening in the last five years I struggled to think of what to do to celebrate. Previous years I’ve done community projects such asHappy Notes and anAMA. But I couldn’t think of a project or way to celebrate that could completely encapsulate all my thoughts and feelings about my blog. And then I realised it wasn’t as complicated as I was making it out to be, and everything could be captured by two simple words – I want to celebrate my five years with a ‘thank you’.

Thank you to you, readers, who enjoy flicking through my blog and who stuck with it over the years. Thank you to anyone who’s ever commented or sent me nice emails. And thank you to any readers who just like to, well, read and check in now and then to see what I’ve published. I’ve been lucky enough to share some really awesome content with you all, and I hope to continue doing it well into the future (with maybe one or two hiatuses thrown in).

  2. Five years already huh? That’s truly an amazing time! I will reach that next year, although just like you I’ve also had a couple of times I’ve been on a lentghy hiatus, so it’s probably not a full five year either. Doesn’t matter though as I think it’s a huge milestone that you have reached, and you have every right to be proud of yourself for reaching such a massive achievement! Well done, is all I can say, and I’m very glad to have discovered your blog. It’s always been a pleasure to read your posts, and I hope you will continue for many more years to come! 😊😊

  3. Happy five years!! I’m so glad to see we’ve all managed to make it this far. It’s pretty crazy! I’m so happy for you, seeing you branch out and writing for other sites. You’ve come a long way and I can’t wait to see where you are in the next blog anniversary! Don’t worry about taking hiatuses. I used to feel awful and guilty for taking them but it just bleeds into a vicious cycle that way. I felt so much better taking time off when I needed to and people are understanding, thankfully 🙂

Anyway, congrats again and take care! ❤

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words 🥰! Definitely agree with you, I’m slowly trying to change my hiatus guilt as honestly it’s best to step away for a while and then come back and really enjoy it again ☺️☺️

  4. Happy 5 year blogiversary! I didn’t realize our blogiversaries were only 21 days apart (I started on 8/5/2015). The way you’ve presented your material and the way you write, I thought your site had been along a lot longer!

Looking forward to your next 5 years!

    1. Thank you for your kind words (especially from someone whose writing I admire)! Naja also began her blog in August, so the three of us are August Triplets ☺️😂 I look forward to all of us having another five awesome years together ☺️
